About

The Kevin Bushell Foundation (KBF) is proud to honor Kevin’s memory by giving back.

The KBF’s roots began immediately following the loss of Kevin, when several of his friends and fellow sailors started a GoFundMe account to raise money for a scholarship  to award Gaithersburg High School (GHS) students in Kevin’s name and memory.

We are happy to acknowledge and thank, Stephen Townes, Ahmed Boigny, Kayla Mason, Hannah Conrad, and Ian Campbell for taking the time to start the GoFundMe endeavor to remember Kevin in a way that would create something wonderful and meaningful.

From that original GoFundMe account, his family decided to take it to the next level and create a nonprofit in Kevin’s name. Since 2018, the Kevin Bushell Foundation, Inc., has awarded $20,500 in scholarships to Gaithersburg High School seniors.  One scholarship is given to a student that will attend a four-year college or university and the second scholarship is awarded to a student that will attend Montgomery College, located in Montgomery County, Maryland.

The applications will be made available to GHS students February1st each year on this website or from the College Career Counselor at Gaithersburg High School.  The deadline to apply is May 15th.  Each applicant must submit the completed application, an essay, resume, and copy of their acceptance letter to the college they will attend.  The winners will be notified no later than May 26th.

The Foundation is looking to support students that might have a financial need, have shown that they understand what Honor means, and is looking to create a better and brighter future for themselves. We want to help you to achieve your goals and to honor Kevin’s memory.
