Board Members

Karen Bushell

Karen Bushell, Honorary Chair

Mother of Kevin Bushell and Founder of the Foundation

Karen has worked for the Maryland Judiciary for over 19 years. She is currently the Chief Deputy Clerk at the Montgomery County Circuit Court and has been in that role since 2014. Karen is currently enrolled in the Institute for Court Management four-year program offered by the National Center for State Courts and will graduate in January 2021. She also received her Paralegal Certificate from George Mason University while employed at the Judiciary. Most importantly, Karen is the mother of Kevin Bushell. After she lost Kevin, she wanted to create a non-profit in Kevin’s name not only to help others and honor Kevin, but to create a future that will not physically include Kevin, but it will happen because of him.  Kevin would love the idea of helping others and so we will do just that.
Annie Shane

Annie Shane, President

Cyber Defense Analyst, Montgomery College

Annie currently works in the Office of Information Technology for Montgomery College (MC) as a Cyber Defense Analyst. She has been with MC for over 14 years and previously was in the US Navy. Annie received her master’s degree in cyber security from the University of Maryland University College in 2017. Annie is also Kevin’s other mother. Together Annie and Karen they have raised 6 amazing children.

Annie joined the Navy right out of high school and was in for 12 years. Over the years she often shared her love of the Navy with Kevin. She even taught him the NATO phonetic alphabet when he was 10 years old while on a layover at an airport. All at Kevin’s insistence! After Kevin graduated from high school, he expressed an interest in joining the Navy and Annie encouraged him. She knew that Kevin would thrive in that environment, and he absolutely did.

Jennifer Moran

Jennifer Moran, Board Member

Teacher and friend of Kevin

Jennifer is currently a first-grade teacher at Goshen Elementary in Gaithersburg Maryland. She started her teaching career at Goshen in 2016 and the entire time she has taught first graders. Jennifer completed her master’s degree in Special Education from Towson University in May of 2020. Jennifer’s family own a local restaurant, Gentleman Jim’s, in Gaithersburg, MD, and that restaurant has always been a local favorite place to eat and drink over the years. Jennifer and her siblings went to school with Kevin and his brother and sisters. They started out at Goshen Elementary together and graduated from Gaithersburg High School together. Jennifer reached out to the family after we lost Kevin to invite us to the 1st Annual Goshen Veteran’s Day assembly. We were honored to attend and have formed a new relationship with Goshen Elementary. We are happy that Jennifer reached out to us and we are so glad to have her as part of the Foundation’s Board.
